Your Questions About Spider Veins During Pregnancy

Betty asks…

Leg pain after giving birth to my daughter….?

I don’t even know how to ask this question, because its kind of hard to describe; I can only hope that someone knows what this might be. I am 22 years old I gave birth to my first child on Aug.28th….during the pregnancy I gained a normal amount of weight ( 25 pounds…all of which I have now lost)…I now weigh 170 and am 5’7. During the pregnancy I also got a ton of stretch marks….on my legs, thighs, stomach, butt, sides….pretty much ever lower extremity is covered…and I have recently noticed broken blood vessels….spider veins I guess you could call them, all over the outer side of my thigh. And there is this area on both legs that slightly protrudes a little and hurts really bad if I put pressure on it. When I look at it it looks like I have a bunch of cluster of broken blood vessels. Is there a condition that I might have that causes this? What can be done about it? I am slightly over weight….would losing another 10 -15 pounds help?

rob answers:

What you have is varicose veins, and probably have some deep ones you can’t see well. It’s a problem pregnant women have been plagued with for eons, and unfortunately not a lot you can do about them. When you are pregnant, the blood supply naturally increases to be able to provide oxygen and nutrients to the developing baby. Your circulatory system is a closed pipe system though- and can only increase in diameter so much. It’s sort of like trying to add in an extra cup to a gallon pitcher. Well, sometimes the veins just can’t take it and they bulge out. If it’s near the surface, you get to see them. Fortunately most will reduce after the baby delivers. Most, but not always all of them. The area around a varicose vein can burn, itch or be painful. Most will calm down within 3-4 months of delivery, though. If they don’t, then your regular doctor can advise you on more permanent solutions. You can help things by wearing support hose, keeping your legs elevated as much and as often as you can, and yes- by losing some of the weight may help. You want to watch the diet so it’s lower in salt, so water retention isn’t as much a problem. Avoid sitting or standing in one position for extended periods of time as well, and try some exercise where you move the legs- walking or swimming are excellent. Don’t sit with your legs crossed either. You should also stick to low heel shoes, not high heels. The calf muscles should be kept in the relaxed position as much as possible, so check out the pumps to be sure the heels are low enough for that. I also warn you that pregnancy will aggrivate them, and those you don’t see now may become more visible. The old ones may also return with a vengence. Since you know now you are prone to them, you will want to take extra precautions while pregnant again- like wearing flats and support hose from the start. Unfortunately the tendency is genetic as well- so you can always fuss at your mom! Sorry dear, it’s one of the prices you pay for the dear little one.

Joseph asks…

is pregnancy a possibility?

so during the beginning of my first pack of bc I was on meds from my doctor for respiratory infection. And during that time my boyfriend and I were sexually active.and also for a month and a half before we were as well; so it was decided that birth control was needed. now I’ve been having these random weird cramps, for exactly a week today. it cramps for about 10 seconds then quits but continues during the remainder of the day. when I urinate it does the same thing once again. I’m on my 3rd day of sugar pills and still no period..horrible fatigue, bigtime hunger that is relatively frequent, moody, I feel bloated and my boobs have some weird tiny spider like vein things and I can see one huge vein on each boob, and I have a cold of some sort?

pretty much confused and wondering if pregnancy is a possibilty.

rob answers:

Yeah sounds like you are pregnant. I would take a test and stop taking the pills. Those are the same symptoms that I had

Mandy asks…

What do you think? Pregnancy?

Im just looking for some opinions, i know the only really way to know is to take a test, so i took one last night at 2 days late, and it was negative. I am 23 years old and i am in a very committed and loving relationship, so if i was pregnant, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. My boyfriend and i have been having sex using the *Pull Out Method* i know.. i know.. not reliable at all. My question is i had sex using that method 5 times during my fertile time. What are the odds i could be pregnant? my period is ab 3 days late. And i have my normal pms symptoms. The difference is and sorry for the T.M.I. but i have had alot and i mean ALOT of extra cm to the point where the last couple of days, i think its my period and its not. I also have noticed spider like veins going through my boobs. And light cramps throughout my uterus. and one more bit of info i have been wickedly nauseous, Any thoughts?

rob answers:

Yes, you could be pregnant.

Regardless, its pretty clear by asking so many questions in the TTC section that you ARE trying to get pregnant. However, it’s also clear that if you’re boyfriend is ‘pulling out’ he’s NOT ready to be a father or get you pregnant.

Why would you try to trap some guy you claim to love into getting you pregnant? How about getting on birth control and making him wear a condom until he’s ready to be a father? This may sound mean, but it’s in the best interest of your future child.

James asks…

How on earth can you tell your pregnant?

I thought I could be pregnant because of a short period right after I came off the pill. I took a test and it was negative. I’m pretty sure I ovulated on time because I had 2 days of heavy clear discharge during the time I should have been ovulating. I got my last period on time and it was heavy with lots of cramping and clots and lasted the full 5 days. I thought I was in the clear. I’ve had no symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, sore breasts, fatigue, etc.) Recently I’ve noticed that my breasts look different. There are a lot of spider veins and blue veins. i’ve always had some blue veins and I’m not sure if I’ve tricked myself into thinking I have more. I did research on what could possibly cause it and everything says pregnancy. I took a first response pregnancy test and it says negative like all the other tests. Does this sound like the veins could be caused by pregnancy or something else? Could a steroid cream used for ringworm cause the spider veins to appear?
I’m confused because some women say they have heavy periods even during pregnancy and that the hpts didn’t show anything until the 4th month.

rob answers:

The veins can show up sometimes before your period. If you think you are pregnant the doctor is the best be to confirm. Its crazy but there should be some definite signs and symptoms.

Sandy asks…

Has anyone gotten pregnant and had a period?

I know that some women have period-like bleeding during the first few months of their pregnancy; I’m looking for anyone who has had that experience. I came off the pill about 6 months ago and am causally ttc, using withdrawal more or less. Everything was normal until about three weeks ago when I started having some strange symptoms including AF-like cramping, backaches, weight gain, bloating, spider veins on legs, prominent veins on bbs and abdomen, occasional headaches and nosebleeds, crazy moodiness and hot flashes. I took a htp the day my period was due (negative) and then got my period two days later. It’s as heavy as it usually is but it seems shorter and all bright red. Now that my period is over, all the symptoms are still there. To anyone who has had a period while pregnant, did you have these symptoms? When did you test positive? I’m sure its just wishful thinking but what do you think in my case? Thanks.

rob answers:

At the beginning yes you could have your period and be pregnant. My friend was like that and she ended up pregnant.she was about 7-8 week when she found out.

Your Questions About Spider Veins On Nose

William asks…

Questions for anyone who has used BIO OIL?

1, Does it get rid of white scars too, as all mine are white not dark.

2, Why do you have to stop using it after 3 months?

3, Can it reduce slight spider veins around the nose and cheeks and is it suitable to use on your face in general-the fact it says you have to stop using it after 3 months makes me question if it is.

4, And has it worked for you?

Thanks!

rob answers:

It depends on how old they are. Natural treatments and Vitamin E capsules and oil can help newer scars more so than they can the older ones.

Step 1: If you can, visit your dermatologist and request some kind of microdermabrasion that they can do on your scar, which will help it slough away the dead skin.
Step 1 at home: If you’d rather not deal with the dermatologist, make sure to get a GOOD exfoliant and exfoliate your scar regularly.

Step 2: You have a lot of choices as to what to put on it, ranging from oils to creams to silicone scar sheets and more. Oils can be messy and less effective on older scars and scar sheets are just a hassle to deal with and they don’t work any better than creams. Your easiest and safest bet would be a really good scar cream. Do your research online, there are a lot of creams available but only a few that actually work.

Step 3: You MUST apply at least 2 times a day, 3 if you can. And you have to apply it CORRECTLY to get the best results. There’s a great article on http://www.HelpScars.com that will show you the proper way to apply treatments to scars.

Step 4: Consistency and committment. Apply the scar cream every day, 2-3 times is best. You won’t get instant results but depending on how bad your scar is and how well you take care of it and how good your scar cream is, you can start to see results in as little as a week! Http://www.ScarCreamReviews.com is a great resource for scars information and reviews on good scar creams.

In a nutshell:
Exfoliate. Get a good cream. Apply apply apply and apply, but make sure to do it correctly. Be consistent and patient.

Getting rid of scars is definitely not an impossible task, but you must take it seriously and keep it really consistent as it can take weeks or months for it to completely go away, depending on the severity of the scar.

For the slight spider veins, I wouldn’t recommend bio oil or anything close to it. You may just do well with a really good, quality skin cream.

I hope this has helped you. :)

Helen asks…

Help!..any way to stop or treat broken blood vessels or spider veins?

Is there any way to prevent/treat those tiny red veins (spider veins) or broken blood vessels? I have a few on my nose & they are very noticable & embarrasing! Is there a skin supplement or anything I can use to get rid of them, or at least diminish them? Help!

rob answers:

Broken blood vessels on the nose are often a symptom of rosacea, especially when accompanied by redness. The blood vessels visible on the nose are usually dilated capillaries and not veins (like you see in the legs). If you have rosaea, it can be treated with several medications, but it never goes a way entirely. Otherwise, capillaries close to the skin can be eliminated with laser, but the treatment maybe not be covered by insurance.

Lisa asks…

6 month old daughter has red “spider” looking veins close to the surface of her cheeks?

I am headed into the ped’s on Oct 6 for a 6 month check up and will surely ask him then, so please dont tell me to take her to the doctors. Anyway she was born with Stork bites and angel kisses on her forhead, eyelid, and upper lip. They are fading now, and she always had dry patches on her cheek and acne on her nose. I was told to use cortizone 10 from my ped and it cleared up nice, but now I notice her cheeks always looked flushed and there are light spidery red squiggles viens on the surface of her cheeks. Does anyone else have this problem or can tell me what it is?
Lynn W. Stork Bites and Angel Kisses are the “Nice Term” for nevus simplex its a type of temporary birth mark that newborns can get. Also my DOCTOR recommended the Cortizone 10, which is for eczema and dermatitis, this is also what she had the first few weeks on her cheeks. Its gone now with NO SCARRING. Its the over the counter variety and with the research I’ve done I have no way, in no place, saw that it cause scarring in any way. I dont practice slapping on dangerous cream on my baby with out checking on it. So thanks for your input but please answer only if you know the answer to the question at hand. Your reply wasnt helpful in the least.

rob answers:

I had the same problems when I was little and now I have beautiful skin. A lot of infants go through problems like that.

Richard asks…

red veins on the side of my nose?

i have red veiny things on the side of just ONE of my noses. it looks awful. is there any way to get rid of it? its just like spider veins its normal and fine and everything but is there any way to get rid of it with cream or anything like that? please and thanks<3

rob answers:

No, its a vein, it needs to be there. Lol, just use foundation and cover up and you should be fine. Oh and you might want to say nostrils instead of noses lol.

Ken asks…

Why am I so UGLY?! Acne, Blackheads, and SPIDER VEINS! :( ?

I have terrible blackheads on my nose.
I have mild acne on my forehead.
And worst of all, I have SPIDERVEINS ON MY CHEEKS!!!!
I really want to get rid of them all so badly ;(

It puts me down because all of my friends have the clearest skin in the world!
Please help me

rob answers:

I use to wonder why everyone had such clear skin too. But have you ever really looked closely at their faces? Notice bumps on their clear skin? Well some people use concealer. I think all your friends are using concealer or really expensive acne medicine. Though you’re probably not as ugly as you think you are. But I believe you should do whatever makes you feel good about yourself and happy. You only have one life after all.

You can find remedies for all your problems though, I’m sure there are creams and stuff for your face. Just do some research and ask your clear skinned friends how they do it.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Causes

Maria asks…

Does crossing your legs really cause spider veins?

I’ve heard this from a number of people. They say if you regularly cross your legs when you sit you’ll get spider veins eventually. This sounded kind of wierd to me but if anyone knows if this really is true or not I’d be happy to know because I always cross my legs and don’t really want to end up with spider veins.

rob answers:

My mom sat on her legs and crossed her legs a lot when she was younger, and that INCREASED her chance of getting more spider veins. She already got the bad genes… Because I got them too. I got my first spider veins when I was 14. I’m now 21 and it looks gross. Crossing legs just means you’re putting more pressure on your capillaries. You can get spider veins from high blood pressure, being overweight, taking birth control pills, etc… It all contributes to it, but doesn’t neccessarily cause it. If you have the good genes you shouldn’t have to worry. But to play it safe give your legs a breather from time to time!

Betty asks…

What causes spider veins in people’s legs and how can u make them go away without spending money?

im 16 and i keep getting more and more spider veins in my legs and also ive found some on my shoulder :(
ive had them apearing in my legs when i was 13 :(
its really embaressing and makes me feel uncomfortable.
im 16 and more keep apearing ive had them since i was 13 and it makes me feel really uncomfortable
im not over weight either im underweight for my heigh. 5’7 124lbs

rob answers:

They’re caused by weak vein vessels. Which means your not getting enough vitamins/not being active enough.

Exercise will help in preventing new ones.. But for the ones you already have, start eating a more nutritious diet. Eat foods rich in vitamin E and C or take supplements everyday. This will strengthen your vessels.

Also try buying some raw organic apple cider vinegar and soak a wash cloth with it. Let it sit on the veins for 15 minutes, 5 times a day. This will clear them.

Richard asks…

Does anyone know what causes those ugly spider veins? How can I get rid of them?

rob answers:

Those are NOT caused by being Over weight.. Who ever wrote that is uneducated.. They are caused by venous insufficiency. There is a way to get rid of them and the treatment is called sclerotherapy. The Procedure: A typical sclerotherapy session is relatively quick, lasting only about 15 to 45 minutes. After changing into shorts, your legs may be photographed for your medical records. You will be asked to lie down on the examination table and the skin over your spider veins will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Using one hand to stretch the skin taut, your doctor or nurse will begin injecting the sclerosing agent into the affected veins. Bright, indirect light and magnification help ensure that the process is completed with maximum precision.

Approximately one injection is administered for every inch of spider vein – anywhere from five to 40 injections per treatment session. A cotton ball and compression tape is applied to each area of the leg as it is finished.

During the procedure, you may listen to music, read, or just talk to your practitioner. You will be asked to shift positions a few times during the process. As the procedure continues, you will feel small needle sticks and possibly a mild burning sensation. However, the needle used is so thin and the sclerosing solution is so mild that pain is usually minimal.

Mary asks…

Does wearing glasses cause spider veins?

I was recently prescribed eye glasses. I don’t wear them all the time, mainly driving and at night. Lately I have notice faint spider veins on the bridge of my nose. I am not sure If I just now notice them or if they are caused by my eye glasses. The glasses seem pretty light and I don’t feel any pressure on my nose, but the skin there is pretty thin.

rob answers:

No they dont, but you should consult with your doctor, for new investigations.

Ruth asks…

Does laying in the tanning bed cause tiny spider veins on legs and face?

I am very fair skinned and I read in a couple different places on the internet that tanning can cause tiny/small spider veins. I wanted to know if it was true (if someone knows) and I imagine whatever bad thing tanning can cause prolly is more dangerous for really fair people.

rob answers:

It didn’t bring spider veins out on me (I don’t think anyway) but It’s just different for some people I guess. But I burned like hell and I just came out covered in freckles! :( (How disappointed was I? I thought I’d come out looking like some kind of bronzed goddess haha!) But yeah, tanning is quite dangerous for fair people. When I went to the tanning bed, the woman working there told me I could only go on for a few minutes because I have red hair and fair skin. Sorry if I completely discouraged you from sun beds, but I stick to fake tan now – it’s so much safer and it doesn’t leave you with excruciating lobster skin for days after! Hope this helped :)

Your Questions About Spider Veins On Stomach

Sandra asks…

What does it mean, I dreamed that I was married to a spider?

I said I trusted the spider because he had eaten some bugs and wouldn’t eat me, then the spider crawled under my clothes and lay on my stomach. I trusted him but then I could feel this pain and poison flowing through my veins. I woke myself up because it freaked me out.

The spider was the size of my hand and furry, brown-black in color.

Wth did my dream mean?

rob answers:

I believe dreams can be omens. Have you met anyone or know anyone currently that is not completely normal? Or acts like she/he has something to hide? The spider could represent someone who you trust, but will betray you or already has somehow. That’s my opinion of the dream.

Mandy asks…

Why would veins suddenly start showing up?

Recently the veins on my legs, feet, stomach, arms, and chest have started showing up. My skin is not pale,it is light tanned, and have not been lifting weights or working out recently. Is there something wrong,
When I become cold, my veins show through my skin. This happens all over my body except for my face and neck and I do not think is it varicose vein or spider vein because it it light green like if someone draw on me by the way I am 13 and thin skin.

why did they suddenly show up? Any info would be great. Thanks.

rob answers:

When I’m cold, my vains show up too. I guess the blood changed temperature, and shows in your veins better.

Donald asks…

I have headaches almost daily but when i take medicine it makes my stomach hurt. I have taken so…?

much advil and other kinds in my life i heard its bad for you but recently it makes my stomach hurt and bloated when i take it. i am getting bruises on my arms and legs too and spider veins. could the medicine cause this?

rob answers:

Take full strength Tylenol. (1000 mgs.) Tylenol is not hard on the stomach like Advil, Aleve, Excedrin, or aspirin.

The bruises happen more often as we get older. If you know you’re going to get a bruise, put ice on it immediately. Frozen veggies work well too. You will not get the bruise if you ice it right away for 10-15 minutes.

As for the spider veins, they also come with age. Your doctor can remove them easily if they really bother you.

You shouldn’t be getting headaches every day. You should talk to to your doctor about them. There are prescription meds that could help you. Something like Fioricet. It’s made with Tylenol and Butalbital (a barbituate.)

Good luck to you. See your doctor about these problems. Good luck! :)

James asks…

rob answers:

U definatly could. Unfortunatly the only way to know for sure is to take a pregnancy test becuase most symptoms seen and felt in early pregnancy aren’t that far off from PMS

Robert asks…

I am having difficulty getting rid of the fat and cellulite around my legs, hips and stomach. Any help?

I have trouble losing fat on my lower body. My legs are the worst. They are fat, loose, and have spider veins. Any help that I can get I would appreciate it!
I exercise 4-5 days a week doing circuit strength training and 30-45 minutes of cardio (running, elliptical, treadclimber, bike, outside track). I eat whole wheat only, drink plenty of water, very little simple sugars, and plenty of fruits, vegetables, almonds, whey protein and fiber. I don’t understand why it won’t budge.

rob answers:

There are a few products on this all natural health site I go to that could probably help.
I dont know how they’d do for you- but the Tummy Tucker oil did an amazing job on my mommy tummy & thighs.

Your Questions About Spider Veins

Mark asks…

How to stop spider veins on my legs from expanding?

I already know that spider veins that have developed will not disappear with the prevention measures taken, but is there any way I can slow down their progression?

rob answers:

Three easy recommendations:

Drink lots of water. The eight 8oz glasses methods of hydration was long ago debunked as being ineffective, so even if you are taking in that much water it may not be enough. Use this chart to see if you are hydrated: http://www-nehc.med.navy.mil/downloads/healthyliv/nutrition/urinekleurenkaart.pdf Being properly hydrated will add volume to your blood, in turn strengthening blood vessels and surrounding muscles. This will prevent them from emerging towards the surface of your skin (due to being too weak to hold their stability).

Second, spend at least one hour a day standing, walking, or otherwise not sitting. Improved circulation from this will, like water, strengthen veins and encourage them to go back where they belong: away from your visible skin.

Finally, try using Gotu Kola supplements, as studies have shown them to be very effective in reducing spider and varicose veins. Http://www.vitacost.com/Gotu-Kola-1

Richard asks…

How to naturally get rid of spider veins?

I am in my early thirties and have spider veins popping up all over my legs .I have tried increasing exercise and tried using vitamin K serum and using herbs nothing seems to work.

rob answers:

Beyond what you say you have already tried, here are a few other suggestions you might consider:

- Control your weight and the external weight you put on your legs, (ie. Children sitting on your lap) Avoid placing too much pressure on your legs.

- Don’t cross your legs for long periods of time when sitting. It’s possible to injure your legs that way, and even a minor injury can increase the risk of spider veins or even varicose veins.
- Elevate your legs when resting, as much as possible. Try laying on the floor in the evenings, with your legs up on the sofa or a chair (above heart level) for 30 – 45 minutes each night.
- Don’t stand or sit for extended periods of time. If you must stand for a long time, shift your weight from one leg to the other every few minutes. If you must sit for long periods of time, stand up and move around or take a short walk every 20 – 30 minutes.
- Avoid wearing high heels for long periods of time. Lower-heeled shoes can help tone your calf muscles to help blood move through your veins.

- Eat a low-salt diet rich in high-fiber foods. Eating fiber reduces the chances of constipation, which can contribute to spider veins & varicose veins. High-fiber foods include fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, nuts & seeds. Eating less salt can help with the swelling that comes with spider veins & varicose veins.

- Wear elastic support stockings and avoid tight clothing that constricts your waist, groin, or legs.

- avoid hot things. Hot showers & hot tubs (the heat will dilate blood vessels causing more redness)
- try to get at least 7 – 8 hours of sleep each night (aids in the healing processes of the body)
- try to cut down on stress (stress can magnify a multitude of conditions)

You can try increasing your omega 3 fatty acids by taking supplements such as Evening Primrose Oil, fish oils, etc… Ground Fennel seeds and Flax seeds, as well as Flax seed Oil supplements (omega 3’s) also act as anti-inflammatories.

Guinot has a cream called RED LOGIC which claims to neutralize the appearance of red blood vessels. I know there are other brands and products that may be similar.

Hope this helps!

David asks…

Has anyone had a positive experience with varicose / spider veins going away after pregnancy?

I am about a week away from my due date and the spider veins and varicose veins that have appeared during my pregnancy are really unsightly!! One doctor told me that sometimes they go away after you have the baby but another told me that they never go away! Has anyone had them just disappear?

rob answers:

The reason why pregnancy makes a woman more prone to this engorgement of blood vessels is that the weight of the baby and uterus presses on the vena cava, the main drainage blood vessel bringing blood back to the heart from the lower body. This tends to impede the flow, and gravity dependent areas back up and engorge the most. Since the vena cava is slightly to the right of the midline, laying on your left side may help.

Chances are they won’t go away, because they were always there, but hopefully they’ll shrink back down to their pre-pregnancy size and become unnoticeable. In the meantime, try elevating your legs during bed rest helps and/or asking your mate to massage your legs to help get the blood moving (the engorgement of blood within the veins can be kept pressed out by applying pressure). There are also girdles and hose specifically designed to keep these types of things under control, which you can find at maternity and medical supply stores. They’re not great, but they should help.

Sorry you’re going through this. I hope this info helps & congrats on your baby!

Steven asks…

Do spider veins become more noticable when you lose weight?

I recently dropped 20 pounds and all of a sudden I’ve noticed spider veins popping up all over the place as well as thin dark purple and blue veins. Does these veins just become more noticeable when you lose weight. My family has a history of being really veiny.

rob answers:

Yes they make them show

Chris asks…

How do I get rid of these spider veins on my legs?

I’m only 27, but I’m getting spider veins and I hate it! Just wondering, I know there are ways of preventing them, but as far as getting rid of them without surgery or paying a whole lot, do I have any options? Thanks!

rob answers:

Spider veins are hereditary and they can vary from person to person typically showing themselves around age 20 – 30. Have you talked to your doctor to make sure there isn’t something else going on?

There is a website I visit often called Home Remedy Central, there’s a lot of interesting information. Here is a page on spider veins:

http://www.homeremedycentral.com/en/home-remedies/natural-cure/spider-veins.html

The Mayo Clinic website is also one of my first stops when I want to find out about stuff. Here is what they have to say about spider veins.

Spider veins
Small superficial veins (telangiectasias or spider veins) are a common concern in women, especially after pregnancy. They also frequently occur in people who have varicose veins. Those who have spider veins and varicose veins can reduce the risk of rapid recurrence of spider veins by having the varicose veins treated first.

Medium and large spider veins are best treated by sclerotherapy — a chemical solution is injected into the vein to cause it to inflame and ultimately disappear. Laser therapy is most effective on small and medium-sized veins.

Your Questions About Spider Veins On Face

Daniel asks…

How to get rid of spider veins?

Lately I have been getting small spider veins on my face and a some bigger ones on my legs. The ones on my face aren’t very noticeable to anyone but me but I’m worried about getting more.

Is there any way of getting rid of the ones I already have without surgery? And Is there a way to prevent more from appearing?

Also I heard that apple cider vinegar works does anyone know if this is true?

rob answers:

You can prevent more by keeping your body mass in the ideal range. Overweight people are more likely to have these. Also, not crossing your legs decreases the chances of having them there.

Linda asks…

spider veins on your face?

how do u get rid of the spider veins on ur face. cuz i go really thin skin and like seethru.

rob answers:

Spider veins on your face usually happen in women with thin, fair skin. They are usually caused from exposure to the sun. The first thing you should do is prevent any more from forming by applying a moisturizer with sunscreen every day. As for the ones you already have, a good makeup foundation can hide them but if you want to get rid of them completely, you will have to undergo sclerotherapy treatments. Your dermatologist can inject a solution into the spider veins that will cause the spider veins to disappear. You can find out more information about the removal and treatment of spider veins at http://www.veinhealth.org/removal.htm.

Robert asks…

ever heard of spider veins or those tiny veins on the face and legs?

i have some of them…i was wondering on how to get rid of them…anyone knows?

rob answers:

Spider veins are caused from a lot of standing, and pressure on the legs. To help prevent them you could try getting some Tedd stockings, which, all though they are not the most comfortable things in the world will help stop more to come.(if standing for long amounts of time is necessary to your lifestyle).
I think they have some kind of special concealer out there that you can use to hide them, and if you REALLY want them gone, you can go for Lazar surgery, which costs a lot.

Susan asks…

how old do you have to be to get laser surgery for spider veins?

Richard asks…

Why do I have spider veins on my face when I’m 13?!?!?!?!?

This is kind of freaking me out because I’m only a 13yr. old girl and I have spider veins on my face. They’re small but somewhat noticeable. I have 1 on each side of my eye and one on my left cheek. I”M ONLY 13, WHY DO I HAVE THESE ON MY FACE?! My mom does have spider veins so it could family history, but she only has them on her legs, not face. I’m really worried that I’m going to have veins growing all over my face as I keep getting older. Can someone please tell me why and how to get rid of these things?! Please!! :) :)

rob answers:

Im 16 and a few months back i started to notice that i have these small spider veins on my brow bone and its very noticeable and looks like a small pink circle. I also have some on my cheeks and it doesn’t look good at all.

But i looked up some things online and it seems that the only explanation is sun exposure, i have fair skin on my face and when i go to the beach its the only part of my body that gets red instead of tan.
So this might be why you have them too

&really there’s nothing we can do about it especially since were young, there are some things that can help like surgery and an injection of some solution
but for now were just gonnna have to deal with it-__-

Your Questions About Spider Veins Pregnancy

Paul asks…

Is it normal for young women to have spider-veins?

I am 20 years old, (of Irish and German decent) and I have had spider veins on my legs since I was a teen. Apparenly these are caused by… being on your feet alot, weight gain/pregnancy, genetics, and crossing your legs. Alot of girls that are my age have absolutely flawless legs…is it weird that I have them and does it mean that they will get alot worse when I’m older?

rob answers:

Well they can be caused by all those things but often they’re simply genetic and you don’t do anything to cause them. A lot more women have them than are willing to say so. So no, you’re not weird. And it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a lot more when you’re older. It’s hard to say. You could try treatments but none are guaranteed so the best thing to do is love yourself the way you are.

Helen asks…

Does the birth control shot make spider veins worse?

I am currently on the pill and it is making my veins so much worse. Does the birth control shot do the same? If so, is there a hormonal form of birth control that doesn’t make them worse? Also, is it true about the weight gain? I work out and eat well, is it still probable that I will gain weight if I start on the shot? Thanks! Btw this is a re-post because I didn’t get any answers in Women’s Health and you ladies in the pregnancy section are always so helpful :)

Lisa asks…

Any one get spider veins in their face while pregnant?

Maria asks…

Veins, Pregnancy, Help?

I am 14w3d pregnant and I have VERY blue veins on my stomach and my breasts. What is this caused from? I also am getting spider veins on my stomach. What are these caused from?

rob answers:

There is nothing to be worried about, this is normal as your blood flow has increased due to the pregnancy. The will get bigger as you get closer ti the delivery.
I wish you al the best and hop everything goes well for you both.

Ruth asks…

veins on boobs? pregnancy?

I have developed like spider veins on my boobs, is that related to pregnancy at all, i mean they werent there until recently, think i would have noticed?

rob answers:

Your blood volume greatly increases during pregnancy – you actually have more blood in your veins now than you will have at any other time! And especially in your breasts, you will notice your veins showing much more. If you breastfeed, you’ll probably notice them for a while afterwards, too. There’s a lot of activity going on inside to make milk for your baby, and your body needs a lot of blood to do that! They’ll eventually fade, though. Nothing to worry about.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Causes

Robert asks…

What causes spider veins?

I’ve had a spider vein on my leg for ages….and i’ve gotten used to it, but now i’m getting more. I counted twelve this morning, only on the upper parts of my thighs.

Anyone know what causes them?
hmm. my mom doesnt have any, i dont think., she said she didnt when i last mentioned it to her….
and i’m not on birth control and i dont smoke…..although i have been spending more time around my family, nad basically everyone except me smokes so maybe second hand smoke…..i dont really know.

rob answers:

Well the biggest culprit is genetics…if your mom has them then you are more likely to have them also. Birth control can cause them or make them worse and so can smoking. I don’t know if you are on BC or if you smoke but they both affect spider veins.

Richard asks…

Spider Veins…what causes them? Are they genetic?

I am getting nasty spider veins on my legs…outer thighs and inside my leg next to my knees. i have heard they are due to poor ciruclation….can running help prevent them?

rob answers:

Since the causes are still undetermined, prevention of varicose veins is debatable. However, below are some tips that may help in the prevention of varicose veins and spider veins:

Elevate your legs when possible, keeping your feet positioned higher than heart level.
Exercise daily. Walking, climbing stairs, cycling and swimming keep your calf muscles in motion to activate the calf muscle pump. This reduces pooling and pressure in the veins.
Move your legs frequently. Flexing your ankles periodically will pump the blood out of your legs (simulating walking). During periods of prolonged sitting or standing, flex your ankles 10 times and repeat this every 10 minutes. Try to avoid sitting for extended periods throughout your day.
Support compression hose. These provide external graduated counter-pressure to aid in venous blood flow to the heart. They reduce pooling and pressure in the veins. They also may reduce the risk of forming a deep vein blood clot. Consider wearing them during long plane or car rides.
Maintain your ideal body weight to reduce excess pressure on your legs.
Avoid prolonged sitting and standing. On long car or plane trips activate your calf muscle pump by moving your feet up and down frequently as described above. You should also consider stopping for short walks every few hours.
Avoid excessive heat on your legs, such as hot tubs and hot baths. Heat will tend to increase vein distention and lead to more pooling of blood.
In case a vein ruptures and starts to bleed it is advisable to immediately elevate your leg and compress the area. Contact your physician or seek emergency medical care immediately.

Cause of Varicose and Spider Veins

The below factors may play a part in the development of varicose and spider veins:

Heredity – There is a significant relationship between heredity and the development of varicose veins and spider veins.
Age – The development of varicose veins and spider veins may occur at any age but usually occurs between the ages of 18 and 35 years, and peaks between 50 and 60 years.
Gender – Females are affected approximately four to one to males.
Pregnancy – Pregnancy is a common factor contributing to the formation of varicose and spider veins. The most important factor is circulating hormones that weaken vein walls. There is also a significant increase in the blood volume during pregnancy. This tends to distend veins, causing valve dysfunction which leads to blood pooling in the veins. Additionally, later in pregnancy, the enlarged uterus can compress veins, causing higher vein pressure leading to dilated veins. Varicose veins that form during pregnancy may spontaneously improve or even disappear a few months after delivery.
Lifestyle/Occupation – People who are involved with prolonged sitting or standing in their daily activities have an increased risk of developing varicose veins. Thus, the weight of the blood continuously pressing against the closed valves causes them to fail, leading to distention in the veins.
Lifestyle factors that may contribute to the development of varicose and spider veins are:

Prolonged standing or sitting
Binding clothing
Chronic constipation
Birth control pills/estrogen replacement therapy
High-heeled shoes
Menstrual cycle
Obesity
Sedentary lifestyle
Number of pregnancies
Westernized population
Heat

Lisa asks…

Does birth control shot cause spider veins?

I am on the pill right now and I am already prone to spider/varicose veins and the pill is making them so much worse. I am afraid to go on the shot because of the whole weight gain thing, but honestly I would rather gain a few and not have to deal with getting more spider veins. Also, if you can suggest any (hormonal) form of birth control that doesn’t cause either that would be great. Thanks!

rob answers:

The shot sucks. It will make you gain so much weight that will be hard to lose. It can also make your skin oily and cause large (I mean HUGE) pimples! Nuvaring sucks because if your man is well endowed, he will feel it rubbing against him. Try the pill called portia. Its very low hormones

Michael asks…

Does crossing your legs actually cause spider veins and problems?

I would really want to know cause i’m a guy who sits crossed legged alot but I have never had any spider veins visible or back problems or anything like they say happens sometimes I think its not really bad cause I cross them alot and I don’t have any problems or does it affect you later in life cause i’m only a teenage boy but I have kept my legs crossed from 15-20 minutes sometimes.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Cream

Nancy asks…

What’s the best cream, lotion, etc. out there for getting rid of stretch marks, cellulite, & spider veins?

In terms of cost, time it takes to clear them up, and if it actually works

rob answers:

Here are your options to remove your stretch marks. The stretch mark cream at the bottom is probably the best option on market, but you might have some results with the others
good luck

- Vitamin K and lavender oils are found to be effective in removing or eliminating the stretch marks.

- Cocoa butter, Vitamin E, and Almond oils are good home remedies for stretch marks.

- Walking, stretching, and other physical exercise or activities during pregnancy will prevents your skin to stretch marks.

- Avoid fatty diet during pregnancy. It will increase fat in your body that can cause stretch marks.

- Drink at least 5 liters water in a day. When your skin is elastic you will not get stretch marks

- Stretch mark cream: This the best option you have to effectively remove your stretch marks. By using a stretch mark cream you give your skin the added properties needed to be able to rejuvenate it self. One of the most recommended creams is from revitol, their cream is 100% natural and safe and they have a money back guarantee. You can find it at http://www.naturalskincaretreatments.com

Lisa asks…

spider vein cream and cancer?

hello, awhile ago I purchased a spider vein lotion called Derma-E Clear Vein Cream (http://www.vitacart.com/clear-vein-creme… I have some pretty elevated spider veins on my scrotum and used the product for two or three weeks to apply there to see if results would come. I stopped using it a few weeks ago because I am paranoid and this idea popped in to my head that by applying this cream on my testicles every night that it would somehow increase chances of getting testicular cancer/any other kind of cancer at some point. Is that an even possible or reasonable fear? Thanks!

rob answers:

I hope you are just a bored kid. I can’t believe this could really be a serious concern. No one knows what causes cancer, but I bet if you read the label it probably says the product should not be used there. Or maybe it never occurred to them that anyone would. If anyone was close enough to see them I would hope they would be the last thing on your mind.

Ken asks…

Spider veins????

Does anyone know how to get rid of and how to prevent spider and varisose veins? Do you know of any cream or prescription ointment? Any advice appreciated.

rob answers:

Try putting blocks of wood about 2″ thick under the feet of your bed, at the foot end only. You want your feet to be a little bit higher than your heart when you lay in bed. This helps blood return to the heart rather than pooling in the extremities. It won’t cure existing spider veins but it may help prevent more from forming.
Also elevate your legs (feet higher than your heart) for 5-10 minutes during the day if possible.

best face cream for spider veins?

rob answers:

No such thing. Sclerotherapy can collapse the vein and from there your body naturaly gets rid of it. There is also laser treatments that you can do, see a Dermatologist or a Plastic/Laser surgeon. If its the veins under your eyes like dark circles Sircuit White Out is amazing for that.

Your Questions About Spider Veins On Nose

Joseph asks…

spider veins?

How can i get rid of thred veins at the side of my nose and on my chin, and how much will it cost…london england, thanks for any help.

rob answers:

Sclerotherapy
This is the most common treatment for both spider veins and varicose veins. The doctor injects a solution into the vein that causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut. This stops the flow of blood and the vein turns into scar tissue. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. The same vein may need to be treated more than once.

I’m not familiar with the cost.

Sandra asks…

Ladies – what is the best way to get rid if spider veins without surgery?

I have them on my ankles and thighs and around my nose. I am only 26 years old! What worked best for you?

rob answers:

Forget the laser treatments and the medical route. Drugs will just not work. Don’t listen to the doctors or nurses on this because they know nothing about nutrition. You need to address what is causing the problem and when you fix that, the problem will go away. I’ve never known ANYONE that was deficient in drugs of any kind.

There is a company that is selling a product that will supply your body with the nutrients specific to circulation and improving the structure of your veins. It is called “invisivein” and it really works. Go to: www.healthline.cc (not .com) and order this product; you can call them at: (310) 320 – 1123. Don’t be afraid to take lots of it because it is ALL natural and nourishes the body, unlike drugs.

You should also look at improving your diet. The vein issue is an indication that your energy levels are low and you need work on digestion and possibly blood sugar issues. I would seek out a certified nutritional therapist and get tested for nutrient deficiencies. The AMA precludes doctors from prescribing vitamins and minerals to cure disease. They can lose their license if they do this. By getting tested and getting the right nutrients for any deficiencies, the body knows what to do with them.

Good luck to you

James asks…

i have large pores and spider veins?

i have large pores and spider veins (veins that are just under my nose) i have learnt to accept that both of them things aren’t really going to ever disappear, but what can i do to cover them? i usually put dream matt and face powder on my nose and on the veins to cover it, but my nose gets really oily and rubs it all off, so i’m left clueless? spider veins are really ugly by the way

rob answers:

I would see a dermatolgist or your physican, sometimes the perscribe medication or a cream to put on your spider veins.

David asks…

Tiny Red Veins On My Nose?

I am twenty years old, and I just noticed these ‘spider‘ like veins on the bridge of my nose. I was wondering how normal this is, and how to stop it from getting worse, or spreading. I do not drink, not even a little, but I am constantly stressed. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. Also, I have very fair skin, and sun exposure, even in minimal quantities lights my skin up like a lobster.

rob answers:

It could very well have to do with stress, or after showers your nose turns red from the heat of the shower. (possibility). Put a rag of cold water on it for 10 minutes, if it gets worse, go to your doctor or a skin doctor ASAP
good luckkk

Mary asks…
