Thomas asks…

home for spider veins on the face?

I need home remedies for spider veins on the my face……my wedding is in 5 weeks………….HELP

rob answers:

Vitamin K is the ONLY thing you can use for spider veins.they make a cream for spider veins on the legs and one for face, its all vitamin K….5 weeks of twice daily use should help a great deal…But I have tried it and I do know that it works,I used it for my legs and with continued use i hardly seen them…I also use it on my face and under my eyes for dark circles….you can find this product at walgreens or gvc pharmacy

Mary asks…

How do you get rid of spider veins on your face?

rob answers:

True spider veins respond very well to laser treatment especially at the 532nm wavelength (KTP Laser). This modality leaves essentially no scar and is very fast. It requires only topical anesthesia. The veins may require more than one treatment, but as I said each treatment is very fast

Mandy asks…

how much does it cost to have spider veins lasered on face?

rob answers:

Go to www.mybeautifulbody.com and check out the site. They explain lasers etc and that will give you some idea. Different prices for different parts of the us/world. Do your homework and don’t settle just because it’s the cheapest okay?

Helen asks…

What’s the best way to get rid of broken capillaries or spider vein on the face or legs?

I heard that the best way to make spider veins or broken capillaries in the face (or around the body) disappear is with laser but, what about a cream? What would it be a good brand for a cream/lotion? Thanks

rob answers:

A cream really isn’t going to do anything for spider veins. A lot of broken capillaries go away on their own though. If they don’t go away laser vein removal really is the best answer for spider veins on the face. There’s also a treatment called scelerotherapy that can treat spider veins. It’s an injectable though and can sometimes leave scarring.

Here’s a couple of good websites about vein removal:

Your Questions About Spider Veins During Pregnancy

Donald asks…

Spider veins on chest, face, and arms?

Before I was pregnant I had like one or two spider veins on my chest and now I am 51/2 month and they are EVERYWHERE!!! I feel so ugly!!! Could there be something wrong with me or does this happen to a lot of women during pregnancy? (If so, do they go away?)

rob answers:

Because of your growing belly your skin has to shift and stretch. Dont worry it fairly normal and will go away as you lose your baby wieght after your child is born.

Mary asks…

Where do varicose veins come from?

I’m 24 years old, have a 23 month old son and currently pregnant with my 2nd. I have never been overweight, always exercise regularly (even during both pregnancies) and eat pretty well. But I have a thick varicose vein on my calf and spider veins up all around the back of my knees. How can this be? My legs look like they belong to a 60 year old. Could it be hereditary? Am I missing a vitamin?

rob answers:

O.K. Inside your veins you have little ‘things’ that stand out and keep the blood flowing in the same direction and stop it from flowing backwards. Some people have a genetic disposistion to these things (sorry I’m a nurse and cant for the life of me remenber what they are called) collapse letting the blood flow backwards, the resulting ballooning is a varicose vein. They cant be fixed, only removed (stripping) .

Sandy asks…

dark lines during pregnancy?

Please someone help me. I am a brown skinned african american women like gabrielle union color and i am 32 weeks preggo. My breast have grown about one cup size and i have like these dark brown circles around my nipples and my nipples have gotten really big.I know that is normal and should go away after the birth of my baby but I also have these dark lines all around my breast like stretchmarks but they are not stretchmarks. they kind of have that spider vein look. They are all around both of my boobs. I showed my mom and doctor and they said they are not stretchmarks and they should go away after the birth of my baby. they said they believe its just skin discoloration. Please someone help! has this ever happened to any of you guys and did they really go away?

rob answers:

Yea, they’ll go away. You should also have a dark vertical line on your belly both above and below your belly button. That will go away, too.

Lizzie asks…

What could cause these veins?

I’ve started noticing a lot of spider veins on my breasts as well as more dark blue veins. I’ve also noticed that I can see a lot of veins on my sides too. I’ve been working out more recently in the past 2 weeks. Pretty intense workouts. I’ve read that these spider veins are a sign of pregnancy. I got a heavy period a week ago on time and haven’t had any pregnancy symptoms at all. The last time I did anything remotely intimate was 6 weeks ago and that wasn’t even sex. That and I’ve had all negative pregnancy tests. Could hard cardio be to blame for these spider veins? I’m pretty well endowed in the breast department. I just noticed them about a week ago during the time that I started working out a lot.
I know they aren’t stretch marks. I have those too and know what they look like. These aren’t them.

rob answers:

My doctor told me that this is normal for women who have large breasts. It could just be changes your body is going through. Breast veins could be a sign of pregnancy but it could also be just the way your body is. I don’t think cardio would cause something like this but you never know. If your concern is that you think you might be pregnant I’d say don’t worry about it. Breast veins aren’t uncommon.

Laura asks…

Where can I find a website with before & during pics of areola’s..?

before and during pregnancy? I noticed yesterday my areola’s area few shades darker and the veins in them are more prominent.. They are starting to “spider” down till they almost touch my nipple… It looks like my veins are tryin to connect with my nipple.. lol…

any thoughts?
lol… i just wanna compare… im a visual person… i need to SEE things.. (which is why I suck in math lol (joke)) anyways, yea… I knew ppl would think it was weird but thats just me….

rob answers:

This is the only site i could find. I’m not sure it’ll help. It’s more about breast growth…

Http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.pennhealth.com/health_info/pregnancy/graphics/images/en/19741.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.pennhealth.com/health_info/pregnancy/000115.htm&usg=__Xk2EVjRPTUXGt2gDSWe6kqjpAS0=&h=320&w=400&sz=15&hl=en&start=35&um=1&tbnid=zzcoyBso3x4iyM:&tbnh=99&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbreasts%2Bduring%2Band%2Bbefore%2Bpregnancy%26start%3D18%26ndsp%3D18%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DN

my boobs are doing the same thing. They look blue from far away because the skin is so stretched around the veins lol… My areolas are a LOT darker, but also are patchy in color. Some spots are pink, some are my normal skin color, and some parts are just brown. They’ve gotten pretty dry too…

Joseph asks…

Any pregnant girls get spider veins early on?

I’m only 9 weeks pregnant and already have spider veins on my legs and torso. I even have a bulging vein near my nipple. What should I do so that I don’t get nasty vericose veins later on in pregnancy.

rob answers:

I have a HORRIBLE one on the inside of my left ankle, thanks to my older son. I don’t remember when exactly it showed up, but I do remember it being fairly early in my pregnancy.

I don’t know what you can do to prevent them, but I do know that surgery is the only thing that will take them away.

Betty asks…

Can Varicose Veins in Pregnancy cause lightheadedness and fainting?

I am not talking about “spider veins“. I mean the big, blue bumpy kind that my kids say look like “brains”. From my ankles to my genitals. Can this casue a circulatory problem through out the whole body enough to make you pass out? Please tell me the reasoning behind your answer.

rob answers:

Hate to tell you this ..

My mother has those types of viens, and the spider one. She was told to either not have another child (having 4 alreadly) and or be VERY carefully about that decision. In labor if she pushes too hard, or becomes to big .. The blood might clot in her leg and the clot could travel to her heart and kill her.

That’s what I was told.

Linda asks…

23 weeks and I have little red spider veins popping up on my arms and hands.?

I have these little red spider veins–they’re small and look like broken capillaries. There were one or two a couple weeks ago, but now I am noticing a few more. Has anyone had this before? Just another symptom of pregnancy maybe?

rob answers:

Yeah, I have had a few pop up. I have a couple on my face, a couple on my arms and legs. It’s pretty normal and I have read that they usually disappear after you have your baby.

Thomas asks…

Has anyone gotten spider veins while pregnant?

I have found a couple of spider veins on my legs just recently. I am almost 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and have only gained 7 lbs. I did not get spider veins with my 1st pregnancy…why now? Thanks!

rob answers:

Every pregnancy is different :( they are normal during most pregnancys, just let your dr know you have some when you go so he can check them out.

George asks…

Spider veins help!!?

I never used to have spider veins but now I have them all up and down my arms, over my thighs and on my legs and stomach. And I can literally feel them when they appear.

One time I felt this sharp stinging on my shoulder and I thought it was like a mosquito but there was no bug. Instead, there was a spider vein but at the time, I thought that maybe that was always there. But then I noticed I had more spider veins all over my body and I started to panic.

Then I got that sharp stinging in other parts of my skin too, at least 5 times and each time, a new spider vein would appear.

I am working out, losing weight, eating lots of fiber and water. This is really freaking me out and I hate that I now have all these horrible veins all over me. Why is my skin doing this? What am I doing to make this happen??

rob answers:

Normally spider veins are no big deal, but you sound like they are multiplying at record speed. Better see your doctor.

Betty asks…

19 years old–spider/varicose veins, overweight…?

Hi. I’m 19 years old, female, and I’ve been overweight my entire life. The highest I’ve ever been is 252 lbs and right now Im at 230lbs. I was 212 lbs in the 7th grade, and Im only 5 foot 4. Basically, I’ve been obese for as long as I can remember. I’ve been starting to get these spider veins (little tiny purple/red marks) all over my thighs, calves, and even a few on my stomach. I have some bigger ones, but most of them are pretty small. I have had some hormonal problems where my period stopped for a while and have been taking birth control pills for the past 3 years to bring my period back. I went to an endocrinologist a week ago and she told me to stop taking birth control pills and I am going to get some blood work done to check my thyroid. I also had my blood pressure checked at the endo. and it came back as almost perfect 120/81. Could being overweight, taking birth control pills, not exercising as much as I should, and maybe having a thyroid problem cause these veins?
They arent stretch marks. I have those too and I can definately tell the dif. between the stretch marks and the veins. These are veins for sure.

rob answers:

I think they sound like stretch marks, just where your skin is stretched so your veins are showing through
not excersising and being overweight will cause these
but see a doctor incase it is a bigger problem
good luck

Ruth asks…

Stretch marks/spider veins… go away?

Hello,

I am 17 yrs old and overweight, but when I get thin and exercise – will my stretch marks go away, I also have cellulite does this go away? I have them on my under arms, on my higher butt and hips and along the bottom of my stomach. I heard they fade to a clear color… I also heard of Bio-Oil… but is there any way to make em disappear? As for my cellulite, that’s mostly on my butt and legs…

rob answers:

I’m not familar with products that can diminish spider veins, but Bio Oil works amazingly. Highly recommend it! Your cellulite will go away when you lose more weight, certain foods that contain high fat (like fast food for example) go directly into your fat cells, which is what causes the cellulite appearance. Another option is using firming cream for your legs which I’ve heard works well too :)

Ken asks…

Is this a good diet? Please answer!!!!!!?

Exersice:
60 sit ups
60 crunches
60 leg lifts where you lay on the floor and you lift your legs (i do it with 5Ib feet weights on each foot)

Food:
Breakfast: 30 cashuws (96 calories)
Snack: Mangerine Oranges (70 calories)
Lunch: 1 toaste with butter (? Calories)
Dinner: 1 piece of toaste maybe two
Or a hamburger with only ketchup
Or spinich
Or something from 0 – 300 calories
It depends on where I am and what im doing but im prob gonna have the toast most of the time. I only drink water. How many calories is toaste with butter? How much weight will I lose in two weeks? Im 5’2′ and about 104IBs I want to be about 80IBs tp 94IBs since im a model and need to be thin very thin. What else can I do to lose more weight? I mostly have lower tummy fat and medium love handels. What are some exercise or diet plans to lose love handels and lower tummy fat? What food should I eat? Why am I getting spider veins on my stomach? They are so ugly and get worst when I lose weight.

rob answers:

This is seriously unhealthy. Any physically active adult needs a lot more calories than that. Even on a spartan diet you should get about 1,400 calories total. Even over the short term, anorexia can have serious health consequences, and in the long run it is often fatal.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Pictures

Daniel asks…

blood that is bright pink, neon pink, what could cause this?

young puppy, bright neon pink blood, even when eating and drinking good. but looks like it does not feel good. VET can not find anything wrong with puppy, starts with loose stools, treat for that, take back to vet he gives fluids. when he pulls the needle out.. the blood is neon pink check the gums often, they always look healthy pink not neon pink..puppy doing okay, eating drinking moving around, then bam 2 days later. puppy is dead. gums are white tongue is pasty white, on dissection, inside of heart is bright neon pink, no other blood anywhere. spleen is green, lower gut has *spider veins* on outside walls NO evidence of worms or parasites (under microscope) . (i have pictures or organs and gut and bright neon pink blood)
puppy was outside with its mom. in a kennel with dog house. now another litter mate is sick, the same symptoms, they dive into liver broth, but not interested in eating anything else. last trip to vet, given A/D in cans. dives into that, solid poops, but still has the bright neon pink blood. Vet showed me how to give fluids sub Q, which is just under the skin, but when i pull the needle out..i am getting the neon pink blood a bright magenta.

rob answers:

It sounds like it could have been a cardiopulmonary or circulatory issue. If the vet was giving fluids, he would have put the IV into a vein and the blood should have been dark, not bright. That means that for some reason, the tissues aren’t absorbing oxygen…

Is it possible that your puppy had carbon monoxide poisoning? Carbon monoxide binds to oxygen receptors in the blood, preventing blood from both releasing the oxygen to tissues, and also from picking up oxygen on return to the lungs. Blood that is poisoned with carbon monoxide is bright red, even venous blood.

Did your puppy sleep anywhere near a furnace, or in the garage, or anywhere close to combustion? If so, that could be the reason for his death. I’m sorry for your loss.

David asks…

I have small boobs… while my friends have D cups and F cups… :( ?

Well I am 14… and my boobs are size 34A…. which is tiny!!
I can’t wear dresses that show off my neck because it looks odd as I have no cleavage.
I am starting to get really upset now… I even cried last night because my boobs might never grown anymore.
I’m 5’7 and 8.5 stone.

All my friends have massive boobs…
One of my friends has like something FF …. I am like what the hell, she’s a full 6 sizes bigger

My mum’s bra size is 36B… which is still small…. and all her sisters and their children have (the smallest is a C cup – out of my cousins)…. why did I have to have my mum’s gene on boob sizes…. why did my mum out of all her sisters have to be the one with small boobs?!!!

I am so upset…. I can’t wear bikini’s because it just doesnt look right.
Will they ever grow?
Do I have to consider my dad’s side of the family aswell? (They have big boobs lol)
I mean is this why guys just don’t look at me?
I am a very pretty girl, I know because well I get alot of comments of my pictures and I have modelled before but the reason I don’t anymore is that I turned down alot of offers to do swimsuits and dresses… like prom dresses etc

And I know what matters is on the inside not the outside.
But it’s so upsetting the fact that everything goels wrong in my life.
I have spider veins in my legs at 14!!
I have a scar on my arm, Ihave dark knees and elbows (genetic apparently… I do moisturise my knees elbows etc and wash daily so it’s not build up of skin or dry skin or anything – also I am a tanned colour so it’s not the reddish look on my knees and elbows its more of a dark dark brown)

What chance is there that my boobs will be the same as my mum’s… and my mum’s boobs only because 36B when she was pregnant… which makes your boobs bigger I pressume?

I am feeling so upset… all my friends have to like keep their boobs tucked in their arms while we’re doing p.e and I am exercising without a pain in the world. But isn’t that pain what makes us feminine and women?

Ugh I hate myself, I guess this is why guys don’t ‘look’ at me right?

There’s no point in putting bad comments because no one can make me feel worse than I am right now.

So my question – if it’s not clear is:
Does my mums size determine my size? Or could I have my dad’s side?
And do guys care about the size of boobs?

Thanks x

rob answers:

They both determine your size. You contain both your mother and fathers genes. Big boobs are a bonus and guys won’t not date a girl because she has smaller boobs. That’s be pretty lame. I know as many girls with small boobs that I would date as girls with big boobs. I don’t care that much, and most guys don’t care that much even though you hear that a lot.

Ruth asks…

mysterious marks on leg – broken blood vessels, or reaction to something?

i have a cluster of what seems to be broken blood vessels on the right side of my upper knee. it’s about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. the cluster is red and plentiful of dots. i’m not sure what this is. i only noticed it when i felt a burning under the skin in that area nd looked. another point is that this is all under the skin. there are no raised areas to cause alarm. in fact, it looks like a bunch of stab wounds from a pencil or something. in any cause, it’s been a day and there’s no sign of receding.
this isn’t spider veins. i have a couple of those so i know what they are.
it’s a little yellow if i look closely.
i’d assume it’s a reaction to a bug bite. though, it’s not itchy or is there a point of convergence.
i could post a picture. would i have to do it through link? if anyone reads this and wants to know exactly what it is i could do so.
please and thank you.

rob answers:

I would try some cortisone cream on it for a few days. If it doesn’t go away in a couple of weeks, see a dermatologist.

Spider bite spreading.?

I noticed a spider bite on my arm when i got to work Thursday. It had a red raised line coming off of it less than an inch long. It wasn’t a vein line just skin irritated and raised like the bite. A day later after riding my bike home from work i noticed the whole bite circle got bigger and after i was out of the shower it was just so much more noticeable. I feel like i irritated it since i was sweating and washing it in the shower on the 2nd day. There is very very mild if any pain. Just like a regular spider bite and there is only light swelling and it is itchy. BUT no pus or nastiness and its the 3rd day. I marked the surroundings of the spreading last night with a pen. Woke up and it has spread a little bit more but not a lot, and its a lighter color pink now than yesterday. Im obviously saying all this with a positive hopeful tone haha but iv kept an icepack on it and took some benadryl last night.

MY MAIN QUESTION i guess is… its been 3 days and its only minor swelling but it is itchy. If it was a serious spider bite wouldn’t more noticeable symptoms like flue or pus and nausea take place within 24 hours?

It doesn’t have a bulls eye mark yet. Is there any experts out there that have an opinion? I also took a picture i can email you if you leave it in the comments if you have any further thoughts.

Im not too worried only because i read a lot of symptoms would happen in 24hours. Its been 3 days and it has spread but it doesnt hurt, no pus and it only itches.

ANY THOUGHTS would be great thank you for reading this choppy question lol. I live in WA state so you know my region and what kind of spiders are here.

Put Neosporin on it which stops stinging and has a anti bacteria fighter in it.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Cream

Mark asks…

Has anyone used vitamin K cream for spider veins??

I am only 21 but I have these unsightly spider veins on my face and arms….the ones on my arms are very slight….really tiny and red…but they are there, and there are only like two on my face….but they are purple and blue (but still small). I have been reading up on the vitamin K cream….and the web site swears it works within 6-8 weeks of consistant use. However, that doesn’t always been its true. I wanted to get laser surgury to get rid of them, but I thought that I would try a cheaper route first. Has anyone used vitamin K cream and gotten results?? Does it actually work….my spider veins are minor…so I am thinking I at least have a chance…..

Thomas asks…

Could anybody recommend a reliable spider vein removal cream that works please?

I am only 15, but I have alot of veins visible on my legs. I am going on holiday soon, and unless I use mountains of fake tan I don’t like wearing a bikini because I think people will stare at them. I have been looking at the YSX and skin doctor creams, are these any good? I could not find any reviews for them so maybe some one could help me please? Thank youuu x

rob answers:

The creams are a waste of money hun xxx
go to a beautician and they can laser remove them (dosent hurt)… And its permanent.
Save your money for laser removal , as the creams DONT work.
The laser zaps the ‘spider naevus’ (spider veins) at the root so they dont come back.
Hope this helps you xx

Helen asks…

HIRUDOID CREAM> do you think continued use of hirudoid cream will continually diminish spider veins?

rob answers:

No, you can’t treat spider veins from the outside. You must correct the problem that is causing the spider veins on the inside. The problem is circulation to the extremities. This is due to a bad diet, poor digestion, and possibly blood sugar issues.

To correct the problem on an immediate basis, you can use a natural product that really works. It’s called “Invisivein” and is sold by the company at: www.healthline.cc (not .com) The also sell a great product for circulation called “circuzyme.”

Both of these products will help, but the best one is the Invisivein product. You can call them to order it at: (310) 320 – 1123. I would take 4 capsules 3 times per day. You will start seeing the results in a few days.

I would also highly recommend you get a product from the same company called “heart nano detox.” This product contains herbs that will greatly help your circulation as well and strengthen your arterial walls and your heart muscle. Additionally, vitamin Q is a very necessary vitamin that is necessary for your heart function. You can get this from the same company in the form of COQ-10 or CoQ-Quinol. The form they produce it in is highly effective, unlike many of the products sold in health food stores that do not work that well.

In order to help your digestion, I would suggest you also purchase from this company the Betaine HCL + Activator and the Quantum Digest. I would take 2 or 3 Betaine HCL and 1 Activator after each meal. I would take 1 to 2 Quantum Digest during the meal.

I would also purchase the probiotic and take one in the morning and one in the evening each day. I think you will be amazed at how these things will make a big difference for you.

In regard to your diet, I would concentrate on totally eliminating ALL SOY products, except for any fermented soy like the Japanese eat, such as soy sauce and miso. NO TOFU!

Eliminate ALL vegetable oils, except for Olive Oil and Walnut Oil. The vegetable oils like soybean and canola are genetically altered and are rancid when you purchase them and when you heat them even a little, they polymerize into trans fats and are terrible for you. Coconut oil and butter made from raw cream do not have to be emulsified by bile in the body and are immediate sources of nourishment to cells in the intestines and provide grear energy to the body. Avoid ALL hydrogenated oils, like margarine, crisco, etc. It’s all junk.

Good luck to you

Richard asks…

is there any spider vein cream that i could use that works?

anything really, that is sold in local stores? thanks!

rob answers:

Don’t know about any creams but I do know that Buckwheat is very good for the vascular system. You can get it in tablet form from health stores or a good local pharmacy. You can also buy it as a packet of ground flour, Tesco and Sainsbury supermarkets sell. I use it and it definitely gets rid of fine, red veins on the face. Takes about 2 – 4 weeks of daily intake before you’ll see results.

Maria asks…

What kind of cream will help clear up spider veins?

rob answers:

Darn, I’m so disappointed no one has answered this one! I really was hoping for a miracle cure! I’ve heard that the only thing that really works is laser treatments, but I think using self-tanning creams helps to disguise them a little at least.

EVLT endovenous laser treatment

After we infiltrated the entire lesser saphenous vein, we confirm the safe positioning of the laser fiber tip, and then fire the laser. You may notice bright light on the camera, but it’s actually infrared wavelength that you see being detected by the camera. Our eyes visualize 400-750nm of wavelength (rainbow colors), and 810nm of the diode laser machine we use is just slightly longer than the visual spectrum.

This is a model demonstration of the Dornier 940 nm wavelength laser which is selectively tuned to maximally absorbed by the hemoglobin pigments and minimally absorbed by the skin. The white paper simulates the skin layer and the blue paper simulates the blue color of spider veins. The laser energy is able to pass through the paper with no visible effect and is absorbed by the blue color target which is heated and melts away.

Your Questions About Spider Veins

How did i get spider veins and how can i get rid of them without surgery?

i cant believe i have spider legs…im a 18 year old male and i work out alot…ive never even come close to being fat it doesnt make sense…but recently i noticed i have spider veins on my sides…how can i get rid of them without surgery? would rubbing vitamin e cream do the trick? Also, is it true that getting a tan makes them much less visible?

rob answers:

Heres the causes…if you go to the site it will show all different treatments for them

“What causes varicose veins and spider veins?
The heart pumps blood filled with oxygen and nutrients to the whole body. Arteries carry blood from the heart towards the body parts. Veins carry oxygen-poor blood from the body back to the heart.

The squeezing of leg muscles pumps blood back to the heart from the lower body. Veins have valves that act as one-way flaps. These valves prevent the blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the legs. If the one-way valves become weak, blood can leak back into the vein and collect there. This problem is called venous insufficiency. Pooled blood enlarges the vein and it becomes varicose. Spider veins can also be caused by the backup of blood. Hormone changes, inherited factors, and exposure to the sun can also cause spider veins.

How common are abnormal leg veins?
About 50 to 55% of American women and 40 to 45% of American men suffer from some form of vein problem. Varicose veins affect 1 out of 2 people age 50 and older.

Who usually has varicose veins and spider veins?
Many factors increase a person’s chances of developing varicose or spider veins. These include:

* Increasing Age
* Having family members with vein problems or being born with weak vein valves
* Hormonal changes. These occur during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Taking birth control pills and other medicines containing estrogen and progesterone also increase the risk of varicose or spider veins
* Pregnancy. During pregnancy there is a huge increase in the amount of blood in the body. This can cause veins to enlarge. The expanding uterus also puts pressure on the veins. Varicose veins usually improve within 3 months after delivery. A growing number of abnormal veins usually appear with each additional pregnancy
* Obesity, leg injury, prolonged standing and other things that weaken vein valves
* Sun exposure, which can cause spider veins on the cheeks or nose of a fair-skinned person”

Jenny asks…

How did I get spider veins and how do I get rid/prevent them?

I’m only 15 and I have little tiny spider veins on my legs! How did I get them? I do know they run in the family, but why did I get them so young? How can I prevent them in the future? I’m freaking out, sorry.

rob answers:

Pale skin tend to be more at risk of them…I have them too…avoid sudden chnges of tempeature…like dont have boiling hot baths….the only way to remove them is laser treatment…though I have seen a cream which says it minimizes them.

James asks…

How can i prevent or get rid of spider veins?

I am only 16 and i am already getting spider veins. This is very frustrating because i feel less attractive and i am afraid to wear shorts in public. Could it be because i work standing up 9 hours a day on the weekends and on the weekdays i have softball and drumline practice (average of 4 hours worth per night). Please help.

rob answers:

The other answerer is correct. Spider veins occur in many, many people. It is just something that your body does. And, no one looks that closely at a person’s legs when wearing shorts that they could see the spider veins without getting their face very close to your legs. And, your legs will probably become more tan during the summer which will also help to hide them. People do not examine pt’s legs closely except to notice in passing that they have an attractive shape to their legs, etc. You need to ignore these and later, when you are older and have some money saved up, you can go to a laser clinic to reduce their appearance but you would probably be wasting your money because if your body does this now, it will continue to do it all of your life.

When were spider veins discovered and by whom?

I am doing a project for my anatomy and Physiology class and I need to know who discovered spider veins and when. I’ve tried google but all I could find is other information about the disease. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your Questions About Spider Veins Pictures

David asks…

how can you tell the difference between stretch marks and varicose veins?

im 16 years old.
i have..either stretch marks or varicose veins on my inner upper thighs and on eacht high in the same exact spots just opposite each other. they are red and kind of thick compared to the pictures i have seen of spider veins but they dont bulge out of the skin. i dont know how to tell the difference between the two though which is annoying me. the only reason i said it may be spider veins is because they have spread….drastically in the past 3 months or soo….

what are these how can i stop them! im not fat im in exellent condition play school basketball for my highschool and run everyday. what can i do!

rob answers:

Stetch Marks – Look more like a scar that healed over time. Think of the skin as being ” Bloated” then it suddenly shrinks down to normal size. There will be wrinkles in the skin after it is returned to normal…those wrinkles are the stretch marks.
The Veins are obvious, you’ll see a blue vein run through the person’s legs…which bring up a point. Stetch marks are mostly on the stomach, the upper legs & butt.
Varicose veins are mosly on the lower legs but sometimes on the upper legs, and sometimes along the ankles and feet.

Robert asks…

My Spider vein won’t go away! Any ideas?

I have a spider vein (telangiectasia, if you want to be specific) on the side of my nose. It’s pretty small and doesn’t show up much, but I would love to get rid of it for good.

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=71f428k&s=1

The little red spot that you see; that’s it. This isn’t the best picture but it should give you the idea.

I have gotten it zapped (sclerotherapy) about 4 or 5 times, but each time it has returned. It has gotten slightly better and less bright than before, but I want it to REALLY go away!!

I will be getting Bare Escentuals for Christmas, and I recently heard that mineral makeup (the stuff it gets in the air??) is bad for spider veins, not sure if that’s true or not?

I have also been using this natural spider vein cream that my mom bought, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. The cream is called Spider Vein Cream but Derma-E. I’m not sure if I should keep using it or not, because it’s pointless if it doesn’t help my skin.

Thank you, and have a lovely day!

rob answers:

Laser treatment is the only method I’ve heard of that is really effective for spider veins. However, it sometimes takes many treatments, doesn’t always work, and does not prevent new spider veins from occuring.

As for make-up to mask them, I don’t much about that. Put your search engine to work and do some research online (that’s what I would have to do to find your answer for you).

Good luck!

Linda asks…

Is this a spider-vein? Pic included?

In the past year I have had this little red mark under my eye and I dont know what the cause is. When I was younger I had spide-rveins on my face but they went away on their own. Could this be the same thing? What causes spider-veins and what helps make them go away?

Here is a pcture of what Im talking about. Sorry is not too detailed its hard to take a focused picture up so close.

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m243/amandah313/zoo005.jpg

rob answers:

That looks like a cherry angioma (dilated capillaries). Women get them – they’re possibly related to estrogen. They’re often found on the face, back and chest. You notice yours because it’s on your face and you have relatively pale skin. They’re completely harmless, but if it bothers you or starts to get bigger a dermatologist can probably remove it (electrosurgery, cryotherapy or laser).

Jenny asks…

What is this spot on my face?

It is red, and beneath the surface of my skin. I got told it was a spider vein but I’m not sure. It’s about an inch under my left eye and it’s really noticeable in pictures. I try covering it with concealer but it doesn’t make much difference, how do I get it to go away? I’m 15 and I’m healthy, my skin is completely clear other than this.
Thanks x

Richard asks…

what are broken capillaries?

i got a facial recently and i was told that i have a little bit of broken capillaries. at first, i thought it wasn’t that bad of a condition. but, when i researched it online i saw sample pictures of it. the ones i saw in the pictures look really scary, but i don’t have those types of “spider veins” on my face. my skin is kinda tanned and i do turn red on my face everytime when i go under the sun or drink alcohol.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE BROKEN CAPILLARIES?

rob answers:

Chill, broken capillaries are not a serious medical problem. They ARE spider veins, that’s why!

Okay well you probably GOT them from the sun. They can be formed through extremely hot temperatures, as well as going from cold weather to hot weather within a short amount of time (though your condition is probably from the former).

To answer your question, broken capillaries are burst blood vessels. Capillaries are very small blood vessels. When they are under pressure (either physical or chemical), the walls fluctuate and widen or become smaller, causing stress on the capillaries’ muscles. These muscles break when there is too much pressure building upon them.

You can get rid of them through creams, pills, lasers, or procedures. Just ask your dermatologist. If you don’t have one, go to the drugstore. There are medicines, treatments, and night creams just for broken capillaries. They aren’t harmful in any way.

To avoid getting them in the future be sure not to go outside when it’s super-duper hot or cold, don’t get sunburned or windburned, and try not to fall on your face or have anything press against it too hard (even it it’s your fingers, don’t prod your face, it is delicate). Don’t drink too much alcohol. Loads of men have broken capillaries all over their faces because of the alcohol, it’s not attractive.

Good luck!

Pregnancy, Clomid, Spider Veins?

HI.
I finished clmoid 5-9.. My period isnt due until the 17th of this month.. But i have notice I have spider veins on my breast. I’am in my 20s so its not because of age. I am really starting to wonder if i am pregnant or not.. I did have one day about three weeks ago of very very light pinkish color when i wiped.. and now the past two weeks i’ve been having cramps off and one.. and then the past few days i have spider veins.. does these sound like pregnancy, or just all because of the clomid? thanks

rob answers:

I don’t think it has anything to do with clomid. Clomid may give a little cramps but, nothing else. I’ve used clomid for years without success, good luck to you.

George asks…

Spider veins on early pregnancy?

I have read many articles and discussion boards that developing a blueish color spider veins around your chest area, wrists, arms and some on their legs is an early sign of pregnancy?

I am now 12DPO and somehow has seen visible greenish veins around my wrists and now chest area goin on my nipples, but they aren’t blue in color but green and its noticable, although it’s not as dark in color, Ive noticed that I just have it when I didnt used to have it? Is this a good sign?

If you check my other questions, there are other pg signs ive been getting and im on my 2days wait now – but somehow feels different to when I usually do days before my AF arrives.. am not testing again (due to BFN 2days ago) which is dissapointing but I’ll probably wait til i miss my period for a couple ofdays. what do you girls think?

Has anyone had the same greenish veins and not blue color veins too and found out to BFP later in stage?

rob answers:

The veins could be a sign, but i wouldn’t overanalyze all the details if i were you because this will only stress you out when the only way to know for sure is through a positive test.

I had periods when i had all the signs of pregnancy, only to find that i’m not when my af comes a few days after.

This COULD BE a sign, but just wait a couple of days and you can know for sure. Try to relax until then. =)

GOOD LUCK!!!

Helen asks…

How early in pregnancy did you first notice spider veins?

rob answers:

I’m 23 wks & 1 day pregnant now with my first baby. I still have no signs of that and hopefully I won’t get them!

Sandy asks…

Are Spider Veins common in pregnancy ?

rob answers:

Totally!! Not everyone gets them but they are common enough. Keep your circulation active through massage and light exercise.

Your Questions About Spider Veins During Pregnancy

Michael asks…

Has anyone had a positive experience with varicose / spider veins going away after pregnancy?

I am about a week away from my due date and the spider veins and varicose veins that have appeared during my pregnancy are really unsightly!! One doctor told me that sometimes they go away after you have the baby but another told me that they never go away! Has anyone had them just disappear?

rob answers:

Well i have never had varicose veins but i’ve read that once they have formed the only way to get rid of them is with surgery or other medical treatments. Their are ways to help delay formation. Don’t sit or stand for long periods elevate your legs wear compression stockings (available from doctor or in pharmacies)for more info see below sites.

John asks…

Preventing spider veins and broken blood vessels in your legs during pregnancy?

I don’t know whether these are hereditary or if they’re normal during pregnancy. (My mom got these during her pregnancies as well.) But when pregnant with my daughter I developed some ugly spider veins and broken blood vessels in my legs towards the end of pregnancy. Now I’m 23 weeks pregnant with #2, and I’m afraid I’m going to get more. Is there anything I can do to prevent them or is it just something I’ll have to deal with?

rob answers:

Keep your legs moving, even sitting in a rocking chair pushing gently can help blood flow, try walking as much as possible like if your on the phone try pacing around from time to time.

Daniel asks…

spider veins and pain suddenly appearing?

i woke up on christmas day with a pain in my hip and inner thigh. it wasnt there all the time, but when i suddenly moved, i would get a shooting pain down my leg through my knee. i noticed tiny spider veins, well thats what i think they are.. they seemed to have suddenly appeared on both my thighs, only at the top. also on my left leg at the top of my calf. i thought that was quite random. and often i will get tingling in my calf and foot for no reason on my left leg where the pain is. so my question is, is this something to worry about like a blood clot or something? i had my baby 6months ago and never got any of these veins during pregnancy like it says is possible.. so why now? doctors closed on monday so im wondering if its necessary to go to the ER if the pain isnt better.. any suggestions?
oh also i have trouble with low blood pressure.. if that helps. its like 100/60 and i get dizzy alot

rob answers:

See your health care provider as soon as possible for varicose veins and spider veins prevention. Potential complications include:

Vein perforation
Blood clot formation
Blood clot in lung (pulmonary embolism)
Inflammation of the vein (phlebitis)
Blood collection (hematoma)
Infection
Paresthesia (numbness or tingling)
Skin burn
Nerve damage
Bruising of the skin
Pain

Today, the radiofrequencey ablation (RFA) procedure is an alternative method in the treatment of varicose veins. One may treat any residual spider veins or vein branches with either laser or sclerotherapy.

For poorly understood reasons, pain in the hip is often felt down the leg, often at or just above the knee. This is called referred pain. Nonreferred hip pain may be felt in the groin or upper outer thigh. Pain that starts in the low back is often felt in the hip region. Because the hip joint is so deeply located, it can often be difficult to identify the exact source of pain.
Listen for the pain message and try to avoid activities that aggravate your hip. You should avoid pain medication as much as possible. Rest the joint after painful activities.
Heat applied to the affected area will provide some relief. You may take acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or pyroxene as long as feel significant pain. To avoid upset stomach, take the medication with food. If significant pain persists beyond a week, call the doctor. I hope this helps you. And good luck, and happy holiday’s.

Helen asks…

Freakishly swollen ankle during pregnancy?

During my second pregnancy (over ten years ago), my right ankle started to swell and turn purplish during the last couple of weeks before delivery. I asked my doctor, and he said that it was normal and would go away after I delivered. Sure enough, it did.

With my son, who is two, my ankle swelled slightly during pregnancy, but not horribly. Again, it went away after delivery.

I am currently sixteen weeks pregnant, and my ankle is swollen worse than it was during any my pregnancies. And I’m so early in pregnancy! My entire right leg has bulging veins, and standing up causes stinging pains down both legs (I guess as more blood goes down into my legs?). I have been wearing a support stocking on the right ankle while I work, but I wonder if I need to wear it all the time.

I have researched the risk factors and contributors to varicose and spider veins, and pregnancy is really my only risk factor. I am not overweight, in fact I have lost four pounds so far with this pregnancy, and I am only 31. I do yoga, only about once a week, but it’s not like I’m totally sedentary. Plus, being on my feet for long periods of time, such as long walks, makes my ankle huge.

I have a doctor’s appointment next week, so I am going to ask about this issue then. But in the meantime, I was just wondering if anyone else had or has this problem?
Does pre-eclampsia involve high blood pressure? Because I had mine taken last night (at immediate care for severe bladder infection) and it was 94 over 70 something. I think, I know the top number was 94.

rob answers:

I would call your doctor now or go to the ER— swelling with pain could mean a blood clot. And if so then you need treatment- now.

Hopefully it is nothing serious (it could be) but better to be safe than sorry.

Take care.

Joseph asks…

whats good to use during pregnancy to prevent stretch marks (besides cocoa butter)?

im using cocoa butter but what else is good cause the cocoa butter makes me feel greasy, also is there anything i can do about spider veins?

rob answers:

Baby oil, lotion…

For spider veins there is nothing you can do. You can wear support hose and keep your feet/legs elevated.
That may help, but there isnt anything you can do for them

I’m 14, NOT obese, and I already have spider veins…why?

So I’m only 14, and I already have spider veins all over my shoulders, thighs, and somewhat on my sides and stomach. I only added in the second part of the title because generally spider veins are associated with over weight; but I’m 5’6″ and 113 lbs. I’m rarely in the sun, so that can mostly rule out sundamage.

I’d really appreciate help from someone who knows what they’re talking about…I’m super selfconcious about my body because of them and I’d like to be able to feel good about myself in shorts and a tanktop.
The yare VERY noticeable, and have gotten worse over a period of years.

rob answers:

Don’t worry about them. I have some very small, faint ones on my inner thighs and my hips, and I’ve been a healthy weight all my life (I am dead on where I’m supposed to be on the scales). A lot of people have them, and nobody really thinks twice about them.

I’m not saying it’s not a pregnancy symptom, but I all of a sudden noticed mine years ago, and I’ve never been pregnant. Unfortunately, they just sneak up on you. One of the joys of getting older. I hope it’s a good sign for you, but I wouldn’t bank on it. Good luck.

how do you get rid of them?
do they fade eventually?
oh and i forgot about there questions

how can you prevent them?
oh and i forgot about this question

how can you prevent them?

rob answers:

Spider Veins Treatment
Sclerotherapy – Of all available treatments, this one is most commonly used for both spider veins and varicose veins. It involves injecting a solution into the vein that causes the lining of the vein walls to swell, stick together, and eventually seal shut. The flow of blood is stopped and the vein turns into scar tissue. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. Although the same vein may need to be injected with the solution more than once, sclerotherapy is very effective if done correctly. The American Academy of Dermatology states that most patients can expect a 50% to 90% improvement. Also, a new and improved type of sclerotherapy called microsclerotherapy uses improved solutions and injection techniques that increase the success rate for removal of spider veins. Sclerotherapy does not require anesthesia, and can be done in the doctor’s office.

* Electrodesiccation – This treatment is similar to sclerotherapy except the veins are sealed off with an electrical current instead of the injection of solution. This treatment may leave scars.
* Laser surgery – Until recently, laser treatments mostly were used for treating spider veins on the face. Varicose veins in the legs did not respond consistently to this treatment, and some doctors doubted whether laser treatment actually worked, and it was not covered by most health insurance plans. Now, however, new technology in laser treatments can effectively treat varicose veins in the legs.

Robert asks…

What causes varicose veins and spider veins and what can I do to prevent them?

I’m 16 but my mum has them and I don’t want legs like hers when I grow older and I’ve heard it can be hereditary.
Thanks xxx

rob answers:

Exercise regularly. Walking and jogging improve circulation in the legs, and proper circulation helps ward off varicose veins. Exercise also reduces overall high blood pressure and strengthens the entire circulatory system.
Avoid prolonged standing. Standing in one place for a long time increases venous pressure in the legs and feet, and over time this pressure weakens the blood vessel walls. Since prolonged standing is almost unavoidable in some jobs, mitigate the harm by shifting your position as frequently as possible, and try to walk around at least every 30 minutes. If your job can be performed while sitting, see if you can arrange that.
Maintain a healthy weight. If you’re overweight, you put excess pressure on your legs. Exercise regularly and develop healthy eating habits, and you’ll reap a whole host of health benefits, including reduction of your varicose vein risk.
Quit smoking. Everybody knows that smoking contributes to myriad health problems, but if you need one more reason, keep in mind that the high blood pressure associated with smoking also helps cause varicose veins.
Put your feet up for a while. Especially if you have to stand up for long periods, take time to relax your legs and improve circulation by elevating your legs and feet for several minutes throughout the day or when you finish your shift. With your doctor’s blessing, you might also try using an inversion table or elevating the foot of your bed so that your feet are slightly higher than your head when you sleep. Taking pressure off the legs and letting gravity act on your body a little differently from time to time will help prevent blood from pooling in the veins.
Redesign your wardrobe. Improve circulation to your lower body by avoiding tight-fitting clothes on your legs and around your waist. Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes instead of high heels, and make sure your shoes are properly fitted.
Sit properly. Sit up straight and don’t cross your legs. Good posture improves circulation, while crossed legs restrict blood flow to and from the legs.
Avoid high-estrogen birth control pills. Long-term use of high-estrogen birth control pills have been shown to increase the risk of varicose veins by altering circulatory valve functioning. If you require birth control for an extended period of time, ask your health care provider about other options.
Wear compression hose. If you’re developing varicose veins, try regularly using compression hose (support hose). These can be purchased at medical supply stores or pharmacies and come in a variety of different compressions. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure you get the proper fit and compression level.
Consider medical options. While the steps above can help prevent the appearance of varicose veins, stop new ones from forming, and reduce the size and painfulness of existing ones, medical treatment may be advisable if you are in severe pain or if these less severe methods don’t work. Treatments include sclerotherapy, laser surgery, and vein stripping. Consult your physician to determine the best option for you.

Helen asks…

What Causes Spider Veins?

I’m 14, and have spider veins. I weigh 108 pounds and I’m 5’2, and I haven’t gained a lot of weight recently. But today, I notice I had spider veins on my upper thigh that I didn’t have a couple days ago.

I don’t really have a lot, and I have dark skin, so you can’t really see them since their dark blue.Their also really high on my thigh, so high that even my short shorts cover them, so they’re not a big deal unless I’m wearing a bikini or underwear or something..lol. But I still just don’t like knowing its there.

So, what is spider veins, and what causes them? And how can I ge rid of them.. I’m pretty young, so I don’t want to go too drastic with surgery or something.

rob answers:

Well Its weird that you suddenly got them, And its maybe Because You didnt notice them for a while. Dont sweat it, Its normal that you just become born with spider veins :) There are ways to remove spider veins, but they do involve laser surgery. If it really makes you sad, and you dont want them, there are a couple of ways you can get them removed, but it does involve some kind of surgery :(

Paul asks…

Spider Veins!?!?

does crossing your legs really cause spider veins. I heard it does. But then i hear people say its genetic. I don want them but i cross my legs!

rob answers:

No. Another old wive’s tale. Cross them legs, girl! :)

Laura asks…

What are spider veins and what causes them?
