I am 20 years old and I started getting them when I was 15 or 16. I eat well, exercise, and take care of myself in general but thanks to genetics I have spider veins and they are getting worse with age. I have them all over my thighs and even a little on my calves. They hurt most of the time, especially when I am sitting down. I can’t afford to get them removed because it is considered a cosmetic procedure. Is there anything I can to do to convince my doctor that they really are causing me pain and that I need to have them removed?

Just because your Momma had spider veins doesn’t make them genetic. It is more likely a condition from the way you sit cross-legged. Spider veins are little capillaries that are cut off from the blood supply because of inactivity and/or the way a person sits and/or obesity. spider veins don’t hurt. However, Varicose veins DO hurt and are a medical condition (again, not genetic) that is covered by some insurances. Varicose veins bulge out, standing or sitting, and are what happens when you ignore the spider veins in your legs years earlier.
