I have been treated over the course of several years for severe varicose and spider veins with sclerotherapy. At my last ultrasound, the varicose veins (all but one) had shown to be treated fairly successfully with the exception of a few ulcers caused by the meds. The spider veins are recurring and are matting. Due to deviousness on the doctor’s part and my loss of trust as a result, I am unwilling to go back to this particular clinic or any clinic associated with it. My question is: Is there a more effective treatment than sclerotherapy? Is there possibly an underlying medical cause as to why, despite treatment, my legs have continued to progress(like, potential heart problems, which run in my family)? I also have big veins all over my body but am lean and physically fit– is this normal. My legs ache often after not having injections for a few months. I am taking specific supplements to help deal with it and slow down progression. Any advice or info would be very helpful.

Do you stand for long periods, or cross your legs in a way that it restricts the flow of blood to the viens, it may be something you might want to try to avoid doing!!
I dont think there is any other option but to go to a clinic, although I ve heard witch hazel helps,, guess you rub it on the veins,, have you tried warm packs ,,
If you re still having problems with the viens I would suggest that you try to locate another clinic,, I have had injections done for many years and find it extremely helpful, if you have sore legs the injections are your best option,, but research clinics before going, speak to the doctor before going through any procedures. I can honestly say that I have felt your pain, but I was also lucky to find a doctor who cares about his patients,,, Hope you get some relief soon!!!
The natural treatments for varicose/ spider veins are the same as the ones used for swollen legs, tired legs, heavy legs
There are several factors that favor the appearance of venous insufficiency:
• a settled way of life,
• being overweight,
• a job that requires you to remain on your feet all days (hairdresser, salesperson..)
• number of pregnancies
• and, it can be hereditary
Respecting some basic hygiene and dietetic rules is sometimes enough to reduce spider/ varicose veins. You will have to avoid:
• the heat (sunbathing, sauna, wax, hot bath…) for the heat dilates the vessels,
• wearing tight clothes,
• sitting or standing too long,
• being overweight
To help the venous circulation you can:
• exercise (walk, swim, ride a bike)
• sleep with your feet up on a pillow,
• take cold showers,
• wear support stockings,
• eat less fat and less simple sugars,
• eat wheatgerm, green vegetables and citrus fruits, that are full of vitamins. Eat foods that are rich vitamin E and C (antioxidants) can help fight against free radicals which are ageing factors of the venous walls.
Here are some alternative products that can help:
- herbal tea: cypress, gingko biloba, witch hazel, horse chestnut
- Vein bioresonance card which is based on the principle of the alternative medicine of bio-energy.
